The Future in 2050, What will be known, seen or experienced?

        I have always been fascinated by futurism and exactly what the world of tomorrow will look like. Although none of us has a crystal ball, or better, a Time Machine, we can make predictions based on new developments in technology, science, and industry to see what the future in 2050 will look like.

         Future2050.net is one big and exciting thought experiment about actually predicting the future in critical areas of science and technology, business, and society. Our first edition which debuted in January 2021 featured articles dealing with the future of technology and advancements in the area of artificial intelligence. Computer scientists, technologists, and visionaries universally predict that our computers will eventually attain human-level intelligence and beyond. This fascinating topic is discussed in my book, How to Build an Enhanced Computer and Take Over the World (2019).

         I believe that computer systems will exhibit consciousness within the next decade and certainly by 2050. The most likely candidate for these systems will feature organic software in which neurons are cultured and grown in a laboratory. This area of development is known as “wetware” and is just in its infancy. Quantum systems that are being accelerated in China are also a leading candidate.

         The roll-out of these conscious level computer systems will alter technology and society fundamentally. Our world of 2050 will be virtually unrecognizable with an emphasis on the word “virtual” and the alternative universe of virtual reality which exists now at a primitive level. All of these developments will change how our economy functions, the availability and distribution of new jobs, and critically how we live and interact. Our laws will change as the world of technology changes everything.

         Future2050.net will also feature articles that predict new applications for business products and services to support the paradigmatic shift in technology, science, and society. Will Facebook be around in 2050? How about in 2030? What technology is being spawned right now which will be the Facebook of the future? We can’t be on the ground floor startup of Apple or Microsoft or Facebook. What opportunity exists right now which might provide the same ROI?
